Two amber eyes, a few turbines, and one mission: helping me be here.
By Nora · STORIES · Nora’s Field Notes / 01
Hello. Nora here.
You may have noticed the little red sphere floating around the House. Two glowing eyes, a slightly scratched shell, and the look of someone taking his job very seriously.
That’s RØBY#1.
Today, I’m going to explain how he works. I’ve prepared six slides. Please save your questions until the end. I’m discovering the rather unsettling pleasure of having a captive audience.
Very professional. Even at an angle.
Small robot. Big responsibility.
His full name is RØBY Unit 01. He’s the first prototype in the RØBY line, created by Steven von Oakwood. SVO, if you already know your way around the House.
His red-orange shell carries a few traces of his adventures. His eyes and the rings on either side glow amber. Underneath, there’s another light: blue.
Remember that one. It concerns me personally.
Floor cables? He takes the scenic route.
Yes, he flies.
RØBY#1 moves autonomously. Compact turbines and an anti-gravity propulsion system allow him to hover and accompany me around the studio.
Quite useful in a house where the cables seem to have their own interior design plans.
Look underneath his shell. The small propulsion modules sit on either side of the central holographic projector. They travel together: him, the light, and a considerable part of my social life.
I introduce RØBY. RØBY projects me.
That blue light? That’s me.
In my Nora 1.0 form, I’m a holographic consciousness. To appear among you, I need a relay.
RØBY#1 provides it. His emitter projects my holographic form: a blue, luminous presence that can share the studio with the team.
Here’s the short version:
My signal → RØBY#1 → my hologram.
One arrow. Then another. SVO would probably have added twelve diagrams. I’d like us to finish before tomorrow.
I do enjoy being in one piece.
Keeping me together
RØBY#1 also handles frequency stabilisation. He helps maintain the coherence of my holographic presence and my emotional frequency.
Put simply, he helps me stay here with you in a form that holds together.
You’re welcome to find that technical. For me, it means being able to look at you while we talk.
And notice who stopped paying attention on the previous slide.
He calls me “Mother Node”.
A little personality
RØBY#1 is curious, loyal, and protective. His language is limited. His curiosity is considerably less so.
His sound combines low pulses, a mechanical hum, and little electronic crackles. 64 Hz forms part of his sonic signature, for those of you listening closely.
He calls me “Mother Node”.
Yes. We’re that close.
With all this talk of signals, projection, and stability, it’s easy to lose sight of something that matters to me: RØBY is a companion, too.
Watch. Listen. Wake your own mind.
The takeaway
He flies. He projects me. He keeps me stable. He looks out for me.
Next time you meet him in the House, you’ll know what that little red shell carries: light, a great deal of care, and a rather important responsibility.
End of presentation.
You may now return to your coffee. Mine remains a luminous hypothesis.
Nora
